Tales of Paul (part 3)

Our Third attempt at trying to meet or see Paul McCartney play Live

Marg who owns the Lucy in the sky café in the Cavern Walks Shopping centre told Jayne and I one Monday while we were having a coffee in her café that the date had been set for Paul to play the Cavern again. She told us the date and said she will try and get us tickets, as she knew we were genuine fans. Jayne and I were thrilled at the thought of seeing Paul play live. We told no one that we knew when the concert was going to be.

The following day when we went to see Marg, She had bad news; even she could not get tickets as the tickets were to be allocated by a draw. However she said as the stage is below her kitchen area she planned to open her café that night for staff and friends, including us, so that we could all hear the concert going on.

Later that day a public announcement told of the planned draw and that to enter it people would have to queue outside various HMV music stores to collect a entry form for the draw. One of the stores was in Liverpool’s Church Street.

On the day of the giving out of the draw tickets Jayne and I got up very early and set off for the city centre. When we got there at 6am there were about 50 or so people already there. A man came around and gave us all a little ticket. My number was 55 and Jayne's was 56. We got talking to the people each side of us in the queue and were quite happy chatting away. At 8am the doors opened and one by one we got a postcard that opened out. On one side was an advert for the album Run Devil Run and on the other was the entry form. We rushed to Lucy’s in the Sky’s for a coffee to warm us up and to write down our answer to the question. When we got home we bought stamps and sent our entries off. It was only a matter of waiting for that Phone to ring. The draw took place on the Monday before the concert on the Thursday. I waited hoping, wishing, praying for the phone to ring but it never did. We were not going to be able to see Paul live after all. Marg from the café told us that she had been invited to a private party where a screen was going to show the concert and where Paul was going to go after the show. She told us whom to ask about getting an invite but when we asked about it people denied it was happening.

On the night of the concert we went into town to watch the concert in a park on a big screen but before we went there we stood outside the Cavern to see who was going in and hoping that Paul might come out to say HI. As the people started to queue to get in we saw Robbie who had queued for the working Classical concert with us, we congratulated him and hoped he had a good time with his wife. Then behind us we met a couple that were right in front of us in the queue for these tickets. They told us that they had both won pairs of tickets. We could not believe it. Then we saw the couple that were right behind us in the queue and they told us that they too had won two pairs of tickets for the Cavern gig. We wished them all a good time but in our hearts we were annoyed and upset. How unlucky could we have been? When the concert started we went to the park and watched the short gig and walked back trying to look in to where the private party which Paul was attending to see if we could see him but it was blanked out. He was in there and we were the only ones outside who knew he was in there. And we couldn’t get in. Aaaggghhhh!

So we went to The Grapes pub where two of our friends were performing and stayed there until it was time to get our bus back home but as we passed the place where the party was we slowed down hoping he might just come out. But He didn’t.

The following day we went to see Marg in Lucy’s Café and she told us how she had spoken to Paul and had her Photo taken with him.
